Auto Blog News Feed: 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt spied in Shadow Black with chrome trim

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 19:09

This year's Detroit Auto Show may have been big on trucks thanks to the reveal of the 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 Ford Ranger, but the biggest surprise was arguably the return of the Ford Mustang Bullitt. Think of the Bullitt as a pumped-up Mustang GT with a touch of retro styling. Until now, all we've seen is the wonderful Highland Green color, but thanks to some spy shots we have our first look at the car's other color, Shadow Black.

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 19:01

We were granted a bit of time with the head of Mercedes-AMG, Tobias Moers, during the New York Auto Show last week. Among other topics, we asked him about AMG's famed V12 engines and whether they have much of a future with AMG. It seems they don't. Moers told us that he doesn't feel they're necessary for AMG's products, especially vehicles unique to the AMG brand such as the AMG GT.

Auto Blog News Feed: Pennsylvania Turnpike workers are the heroes to two stuck goats

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 18:30

Filed under:

What's with all the weird bridge news this week? First there was the truck with the raised dump trailer that clobbered a bridge in a video. Then the Slow Mo Guys created their own bridge crash and got some great video. Now, highway workers have rescued two little goats who lost their way — stranded on a beam of the Mahoning River Bridge, near New Castle, Pa. They were midspan on the 1,700-foot-long bridge, which is 109 feet tall.

A couple of years ago, a team from the Czech Republic set out to create the retro-looking Luka EV, an electric car with goals for long range (186 miles), an affordable price (less than €20,000), and a light weight (less than 1,650 pounds). When we first heard of the Luka back in the summer of 2015, the team had just begun testing its first prototype. Now, MW Motors has announced that the resulting vehicle is ready to launch. Furthermore, it looks great.

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 04:01

Chevrolet has a lot of changes in store for 2019. None of them are especially major, but they're coming to three of Chevrolet's passenger car models, the Malibu, Cruze and Spark. They all get mildly revised front and rear fascias, updated color schemes, and new options and packages. The amount of change varies from car to car, so we'll start with what's arguably the most significantly updated, the Malibu.

Auto Blog News Feed: The Monroney sheet: a window sticker history

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 22:01

Imagine walking into a car dealership blindfolded, not knowing for certain what exactly you were paying for when buying that shiny, brand-new vehicle on the showroom floor. Imagine not being able to see a list price for each individual vehicle option and add on, not knowing for sure how much the destination charge was, or even what the list price of the vehicle itself was. Instead, you'd have to trust the dealer's word on all of that. Sounds a little bit crazy, right?

Auto Blog News Feed: Tesla shares surge past $300 again

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 19:57

In recent days and weeks, Tesla shares have seen some of their lowest prices in since they first surpassed $300 a year ago. Ahead of the announcement of the company's first-quarter production figures, amidst a Moody's downgrade, the price took a hit. The news of a fatal Autopilot crash in a Model X didn't help. Neither did the continuing and increasing tensions over a possible trade war between the U.S. and China, which has the potential to be particularly burdensome to American automakers &mdas

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 19:30

When it comes to long-running nameplates, the Toyota Corolla has few peers. It was first introduced as part of a wave of imported Japanese economy cars in the U.S. in 1968. While peers like the Datsun 411 and Honda N600 didn't last as long, contemporary successors like the Nissan Sentra and Honda Civic are serious competition for the venerable Corolla.

The Z-28 Camaro in 1984 came with a 5.0-liter V8 making a respectable 190 horsepower. Buyers who went with the base four-cylinder engine, however, got just 92 Iron Duke horses. Few did. Here's a very rare Iron Duke Camaro in a Central Valley self-service wrecking yard.

Looking at the line-item breakdown of what it actually costs to buy a car can sometimes be stressful. Cars are already expensive, and then there are hundreds of dollars in individual fees tacked on. Let's cover one that seems suspiciously simple: the destination fee.

Auto Blog News Feed: 2018 Range Rover Velar: A rotary shifter done right

Wed, 04/04/2018 - 19:22

Back in February, editor Reese Counts expressed his beef with the rotary shifter in the long-term Jaguar F-Pace. In short, the shifter wouldn't rotate into either drive or reverse. Now, I've personally never experienced such an issue with that shifter design since it was unveiled in the original (and awesome) Jaguar XF. Yet, that early post highlights the other problem with the rotary shifter in the F-Pace as well as the XE and current XF. It is placed at the center of a large plastic trim piece
