Sun, 04/08/2018 - 21:15

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel held on by the skin of his teeth to win a tense Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix in his 200th race start on Sunday. His tires fading, the championship leader took the checkered flag only 0.6 seconds clear of Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, who piled the pressure on in the final 10 laps. Bottas's team mate and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, who had started ninth after a five-place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change, finished third.

Auto Blog News Feed: Sunday Drive: Rendering the future at Jeep and Ford

Sun, 04/08/2018 - 16:00

Last week brought us quite a wide variety of automotive news nuggets, and judging by the response of our own readership, the Jeep Wrangler pickup truck led the way. It's not expected to hit the sales floor until April of 2019, which means we've all got an entire year to wait, but that just means we have lots of time to anticipate its arrival. And we do so today with a series of renderings that show what the so-called Scrambler may look like in a few different colors.

Sun, 04/08/2018 - 13:15

In early April, California's new rules that allow automakers, tech giants and just about anybody to test fully driverless cars on its roads finally took effect. But before those companies can realize their ride-hailing robot taxi ambitions, they have to wait for the state to adopt a proposal issued by the California Public Utilities Commission. The public utility regulator's proposed rules would allow autonomous vehicles to give rides to the public as part of a pilot program – that is, so

Auto Blog News Feed: Autoblog Classifieds Finds: 1975 Mercedes-Benz 280C

Sat, 04/07/2018 - 18:01

Our featured Paul Bracq –designed Benz is a 280C, meaning that the engine is the largest available for these cars, but it's fitted with a Solex carburetor instead of the 280CE's Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection, or einspritzung. That would give the M110 engine 160 horsepower, but the carbureted one has to do with 145. The automatic transmission here is a four-speed. While the car has a full-length center console – a Mercedes-Benz first – the automatic is still column-

Auto Blog News Feed: 2019 Genesis Essentia Concept is elegant by design

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 21:00

One of the biggest stunners of the New York Auto Show came from an unlikely stand — that of Genesis, Hyundai's nascent luxury spinoff. The Genesis Essentia Concept was described as a multi-motor EV with a 0-60 time of 3 seconds and enough silicon to pass the Turing test, but that's not what made it special. It stood out because it's downright gorgeous, a proper show car seemingly plucked from the golden age of pre-OPEC oil embargo dream machines.

Auto Blog News Feed: Junkyard Gem: 1991 BMW 325i

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 20:05

Word on the street is that the iconic and much-beloved BMW E30, the 3 Series for most of the 1980s and a bit of the 1990s, has become too rare and valuable to show up in America's big self-service wrecking yards. Don't believe it! I see E30s in most of Colorado, Arizona, and California yards I frequent during my travels. Last month, I stepped into a big Denver-area wrecking yard with a mission: photograph the first E30 I saw. Here it is, a faded-but-intact 1991 325i sedan.

Auto Blog News Feed: 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt spied in Shadow Black with chrome trim

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 19:09

This year's Detroit Auto Show may have been big on trucks thanks to the reveal of the 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 Ford Ranger, but the biggest surprise was arguably the return of the Ford Mustang Bullitt. Think of the Bullitt as a pumped-up Mustang GT with a touch of retro styling. Until now, all we've seen is the wonderful Highland Green color, but thanks to some spy shots we have our first look at the car's other color, Shadow Black.

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 19:01

We were granted a bit of time with the head of Mercedes-AMG, Tobias Moers, during the New York Auto Show last week. Among other topics, we asked him about AMG's famed V12 engines and whether they have much of a future with AMG. It seems they don't. Moers told us that he doesn't feel they're necessary for AMG's products, especially vehicles unique to the AMG brand such as the AMG GT.

Auto Blog News Feed: Pennsylvania Turnpike workers are the heroes to two stuck goats

Fri, 04/06/2018 - 18:30

Filed under:

What's with all the weird bridge news this week? First there was the truck with the raised dump trailer that clobbered a bridge in a video. Then the Slow Mo Guys created their own bridge crash and got some great video. Now, highway workers have rescued two little goats who lost their way — stranded on a beam of the Mahoning River Bridge, near New Castle, Pa. They were midspan on the 1,700-foot-long bridge, which is 109 feet tall.

When we first heard of the Luka back in the summer of 2015, the team had just begun testing its first prototype. Now, MW Motors has announced that the resulting vehicle is ready to launch. Chevrolet has a lot of changes in store for 2019. None of them are especially major, but they're coming to three of Chevrolet's passenger car models, the Malibu, Cruze and Spark. They all get mildly revised front and rear fascias, updated color schemes, and new options and packages.
